Trendsetter Heidi Merrick is on a mission to make the world more beautiful by only creating clothing that she herself would wear.
“The clothes I make are the clothes I want to wear and I believe there are more girls like me. My father and I use a lot of the same tools: L-squares, blue pencils, patterns, markers and templates. His medium is the surfboard, mine is the dress. I didn’t wear store bought clothes until the 4th grade, and after that I didn’t wear anything my mother made until I got married. Since that day , I only want to wear something one of us has made. My mother is my muse. I believe that what you wear on the outside affects who you are on the inside. It is so much easier to be kind when you feel beautiful.” – Heidi Merrick
What to buy: Another obsession of mine is CC Skye Jewelry… really love her pieces, especially her rings. The first is the Meckenzie Knuckle Ring pictured in pave silver, but also available in gold. Second is the Vintage Show Stopper Cocktail Ring pictured in Onyx…Hmm, which to buy first??
Dee & Ricky’s latest release see them align with M & M on a selection of sterling silver rings with.. wait for it.. interchangeable LEGO pieces. The set pictured above includes sunflower, cactus, flower and scorpion (with faux diamond) options, while others feature standard LEGO blocks. Now in stock at Barney’s.
A good friend of mine, Christine Su, has made it back to the “sexiest city in the states”…of course I mean Manhattan!! Take a look at her newest project SuYoon…the footwear collection features awesome silhouettes and amazing design.
SuYoon is a holistic collection where fashion fuses with sportswear athleticism and classic styles become slightly provocative. Launching in Fall 2010, the collection features a mixture of traditional materials, unique hardware and a custom women’s specific last, applied with sport influences such as EVA rubber inserts, knee pads, and color-blocking executions. These details help support re-engineered silhouettes such as the “not so basic” pump, a sculpted wooden wedge, the “everyday” flat boot, and an over-the-knee boot. The main philosophy of SuYoon will be to harmonize the worlds of “laid-back” comfort and leading fashion, without succumbing to trendy fads.

I had the pleasure of sitting and chatting with former magazine and fashion stylist Khirma Eliazov while in LA last week…Her line of luxury handbags is a little under a year old and has already been selected as one of “four buzzworthy entrants into the world of accessories” by WWD in April, 2009.
The collection of handbags are truly statement pieces!! The line uses a combination of luxurious and sometimes unusual exotic skins, including python and chagrin (stingray) together with the finest Italian leather. Her signature purple linings, originally designed hardware and attention to design detail is also apparent in the hand-woven handles.
I love the detailing throughout this Japanese streetwear brand, with its most recent collection entitled “Working Class Hero” by WHIZ…the photography is amazing, really emphasizes the pieces.
